This chart shows both global and regional literacy rates over a period of twenty years (1985-2005). While overall global levels have risen dramatically, education for women and in the least developed countries continues to lag.

This map shows the percentage of the population that is undernourished (the World Health Organization's standard of measuring hunger) by country. Sub-Saharan Africa, all of Asia, and Latin America are hunger hotspots, with a minimum of 5% of the population undernourished.

This is a combination of two images. The top chart shows the increase in the prices of rice, wheat, and maize from 2005 to 2011. These three crops are the major food staples in most developing countries. The graph underneath depicts the World Food Price Index, which measures the increase in world food prices over time. Since 2007, world food prices have increased dramatically, contributing to the cycle of poverty in the developing world.

This chart shows the major causes of death of children (5 years and under) and infants using data from 2000 to 2003. These diseases are mostly preventable or treatable, demonstrating the importance of prenatal care, access to healthcare, and female health education.

This graph shows the distribution of deaths caused by infectious diseases. It depicts both the global distribution of disease-related deaths and the regional breakdown of deaths caused by these diseases. All of these diseases are either treatable or preventable, demonstrating the lack of access to proper healthcare and health education in the developing world.

This graph charts global progress in providing access to drinking water and access to sanitation. The Millennium Development Goal numbers are plotted at the end of the graph for comparison of actual progress versus the UN's plan.
