Marshall Thurber received his undergraduate degree from Union College, and his law degree from Hastings College of Law, University of California.

His many honors include the 'Cohen H. Kerr Award' for highest academic achievement in an undergraduate class at Boston University; Boston University's 'Utopia Award'; Union College's Gold Key Award for outstanding service to the school; the 'Maud Glover Folsom Foundation Award' given to one individual each year in the United States; and a State of Hawaii Senate Resolution specifically acknowledging Marshall's 'outstanding contribution to furthering overall human success.'
