The San Diego Unified School District Board will be considering and voting on a resolution asking CalPERS and CalSTRS, California’s two huge pension funds which cover retirement funds for SDUSD teachers and staff, to divest from fossil fuels.

Last year the California legislature called on PERS & STRS to divest from coal (SB 185). This would extend divestment to companies whose main business is in oil and natural gas.

Please plan to get there a little early. More details coming soon.

If you’ve been supportive of SanDiego350 and climate change action, you might be wondering “how can I take this to the next level?”. Wonder no more. The SanDiego350 Public Policy Team needs you! Please join us for our Intro to the Public Policy Team meeting. This is a great opportunity to learn in an informal, relaxed setting about the Public Policy Team and the work we do. There is something for everyone. All skills and talents are welcome and needed.

CLEAN AIR · CLEAN ENERGY · LIVABLE COMMUNITIES: how do we get there, what are our choices, and what does it mean for our families, neighborhoods, and communities?

This is an opportunity for us to learn about the state’s goals and approach to addressing climate change and to speak up for prioritizing climate solutions in communities that are least responsible for GHG emissions and most impacted by our changing climate.

Join us for an exciting legislative training that will prepare you to meet with our state legislators in July and August to talk about climate-relevant bills.

Learn:

• How to set up meetings with legislators, including sample agendas, dos and don’ts
• The legislative process – how bills become laws in California
• Key talking points for the several bills we’ll talk to our legislators about
• Receive handouts.

Meet great folks in our area who are concerned with climate change and advocating for better public policies.
